What is Achilles tendinitis? Achilles tendinitis is swelling of your tendon that connects your calf muscle to your heel bone. This condition mostly happens with athletes and regular people. The risk for achilles tendinitis increases as you age. You will feel soreness and stiffness in the tendon and will continues to get worse unless you take action.
The tendons are made up with lots of collagen fibres that closely connect together. When your achilles is damaged the fibres are torn. When they heal, they get stuck together and resulting scar tissue is not strong collagen, therefore it can reinjure if you don’t let it heal properly.
You can try these exercise to help you get started on building strength after an achilles tendon injury. Contact your doctor or physiotherapist to give you more challenging exercise when you heal and get stronger. Here’s some exercise: toe stretch, calf stretch, floor stretch, stair stretch and strength exercise.
